(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored 26 points and sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) scored a career-high 20 points as the No. 11 Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Bluffton University, 95-62, tonight (Tuesday, December 18, 2012) in a non-conference game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 10-1 and with the loss, the Beavers fall to 5-4.
Thomas More jumped out to a 15-4 lead with 16:05 to play in the first half when senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up. Bluffton responded with a 6-3 run to cut the lead to 18-10 with 12:09 to play in the opening half. Thomas More answered with a 19-8 run to extend the lead to 37-18 with 6:31 to play in the half when freshman guard Sydni Wainscott (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) converted an old fashion three-point play. The Beavers cut the lead to 37-22 with 5:51 to play in the half when Kylee Burkholder capped a 4-0 run with a la-up. The Saints responded with a 13-4 run capped by a Long three-pointer to increase the lead to 50-26 with 2:25 to play in the opening half. Bluffton closed out the half on a 4-0 lead to cut the Saints' lead to 50-32 at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half on a 6-3 run to extend the lead to 56-35 on a Beasley three-pointer with 15:26 to play in the game. Bluffton responded with a 6-3 run to cut the lead to 58-40 with 13:35 to play in the game when Brenna Kurilec made a lay-up. That would be as close as the Beavers would come as the Saints closed out the game on a 37-22 run capped by a Beasley three-pointer with 27-seconds to play in the game for the 95-62 victory.
Long had 16 points to join Beasley and Burgoyne in double-figure scoring. Junior forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) led the Saints on the boards with nine rebounds, while senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) led the team in assists with eight and Beasley added six assists.
This was the last game for the Saints in 2012 as they are idle until January 2, 2013 when they travel to Beavers Falls, Pennsylvania to play Geneva College at 5:30 p.m.
