DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Freshman guard Kelsey Kilpatrick came off the bench to net a career-high 17 points while the Delaware Valley College defense held visiting Cabrini College to 10 points and 8.3 percent shooting in the second half as the Aggies posted a 49-37, non-conference win.

Delaware Valley ended the first semester with a 4-6 record with half of those contests having taken place over the last eight days. The squad went 3-2 in those games, including wins in the last two. The Aggies will return to action on Thursday, January 3 when they host The College of New Jersey. Cabrini saw its record fall to 5-3.

The Cavaliers, who led 27-23 at the half, could not buy a bucket in the second stanza as they hit just three of 36 attempts from the field, including 0-for-9 from beyond the arc. They finished the entire evening with 20.8 percent shooting (15-for-72).

Delaware Valley struggled in the defensive battle of well as the Aggies were just 16-for-56 (28.6%) from the field and managed just of one of 16 tries (6.3%) from 3-point land.

One of the differences in the game was Kilpatrick. Twelve of her 17 points came in the second half as she actually outscored the Cavaliers in those final 20 minutes. She was 4-for-8 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line, including clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Cabrini led by as many as six in the first half and took the four-point advantage into the intermission thanks to 13, second-chance points as the team grabbed 13 rebounds on the offensive end (they finished with 25 offensive boards for the evening). Delaware Valley opened the second stanza with five straight to take a one-point lead, but the Cavaliers evened it up on a free throw by Megan Decker with 16:50 remaining.

However, Cabrini did not score for nearly six minutes and the Aggies connected for eight straight – four buckets by four different players - to take the lead for good. The Cavaliers hit a pair of free throws with 11:14 remaining but did not hit a shot from the field until a jumper in the paint by Amber Keys with 9:30 left on the clock. That made it a 38-32 contest, but they had another six-minute scoring drought. However, Delaware Valley had trouble scoring as well and its lead was still at six, 41-35 as the clock ticked under the two-minute mark.

Cabrini began to send the Aggie freshmen to the foul line and the rookies came through by going 8-for-8 down the stretch. Eireann Anastasi hit the first two while Kilpatrick sank both attempts on three consecutive trips to the line to make it a 14-point contest.

Senior Emily Soper blocked seven Cavalier shots and, in the process, became Delaware Valley College's all-time leader in the category. She upped her total to 205 to top 2005 graduate Bridget Golden (201). Soper also added eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

Shannon Barlow and reigning Freedom Conference Player of the Week Brenna Coll each had eight points and four rebounds before fouling out. Anastasi finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Decker led Cabrini with nine points while Keys finished with eight points. Colleen Stewart grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
