Millikin Women Defeat Fontbonne

          The Millikin women's basketball team defeated Fontbonne University 68-61 in the Tri-Conference Tournament in St. Louis, Mo. on December 14.  The win gave Big Blue Head Coach Lori Kerans her 499th career victory.

          Millikin finally found its shooting touch hitting on 51 percent of its shots including going 6-9 (67 percent) from beyond the three-point arc.  The Big Blue held Fontbonne to 33 percent from the field.  Millikin out rebounded the Griffins 41-35.  Millikin had a 40-32 advantage at the half and held off the Griffins second half run to pull out the seven point victory.

          Two freshmen led the Big Blue in scoring with Alyssa Saklak and Sydnee Sturdivant each scoring 12 points.  Jasmine Johnson had 10 points and eight rebounds.  Bria Williams had a team high 10 rebounds with nine points.  Brittany Czaplicki and Holly Haskins each scored nine points.

          Allison Hogan led Fontbonne with 17 points.  Hillary Johnson had 11 points and a team high seven rebounds.

          Millikin improves to 3-4 and Fontbonne falls to 2-5.  Millikin will try to get Kerans her 500th win on Saturday night, Dec. 15, when they face Illinois College in the Tri-Conference Tournament at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Mo. at 7 p.m.  Kerans is trying to become the 15th active NCAA Division III women's basketball coach to win 500 games and the first among College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) women's head coaches.
