MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In every win this season, the Edgewood College women's basketball team has played tough defense and took care of the ball. On Saturday afternoon, the Eagles struggled early but showed determination as an impressive second half led to a 63-36 win over MSOE in the Kern Center.

Right out of the game Edgewood College (3-6, 3-2 NAC) grabbed the lead with a free throw byChelsey Watkins, but MSOE responded with a layup by Megan Kroll. The Raiders (0-7, 0-5 NAC) built their lead and with just over ten minutes to play, led 21-9. Although the Eagles found themselves in a double-digit deficit, they turned up the defense and cashed in on crucial opportunities to climb back into the game. Back-to-back layups by Watkins and Alison Tobin sparked a 17-0 run to put Edgewood College back on top 26-21. During that stretch, the Eagles scored 14 of their 17 points in the paint. Edgewood College continued to roll and grabbed a 30-25 lead at the break.

The Raiders scored five straight points to cut the Eagles' lead to two, but Edgewood College never relinquished the lead the rest of the game. The Eagles shut down MSOE for seven straight minutes and forced 16 MSOE turnovers in the second half. Melanie Walker shined after the break, scoring seven of her 11 points and swiping three steals which led to Edgewood College baskets.

Defensively, the Eagles played one of the best halves of their season as they held the Raiders to a 3-for-21 (14.3 percent) performance. Edgewood College only allowed the Raiders to score 11 points after halftime.

Tobin was one rebound away from a double-double as she poured in 12 points and grabbed nine boards. Walker also scored in double figures as she netted 11 points. Zoey Dougherty came off the bench to cash in six points in six minutes for the Eagles.
