DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Briarcliffe College (NY) hit 12 shots from 3-point land as the Bulldogs completed a 3-0 trip to Pennsylvania with an 83-77 triumph over Delaware Valley College.
Briarcliffe, which won a pair of games at the Penn State Brandywine Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday, improved to 4-0 on the season. The Aggies dropped to 1-5 and they will return to action on Monday night when they host Penn State Brandywine.
Nine of the Bulldogs' 12 treys came in the first half as they led by as many as 10 before settling for a 38-34 advantage at the break. Senior forward Emily Soper kept Delaware Valley close as she notched 19 points and 12 rebounds in the opening 20 minutes
It was still a four-point game four minutes into the second stanza when the Aggies went on a 7-0 run to go ahead for the first time in the game, 51-48. Eireann Anastasi had five of the seven points in the spurt.
Delaware Valley was up two, 53-51, midway through the second half when the Bulldogs erupted for 22 of the game's next 28 points, including 15 by Simone Thomas, to take a commanding, 73-58 lead with 1:50 remaining. The Aggies made things interesting by going on a 17-4 run to cut the deficit to four with 22 seconds to go, but Briarcliffe hits its foul shots to hold on for the win.
Thomas finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots for the Bullfogs. Desvignes had 18 points while Jessica Little hit five treys and finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Soper finished with 23 points and a career-best 23 rebounds in the loss. She moved into fifth place on the school's all-time list in rebounds with 698 and tied Andrea Shumack for the 11th position in career points with 1,106. Anastasi notched 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds while Agatha Drozd added eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
