MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Nothing went Coe's way after the first minute of the game Wednesday, as Cornell evened the Bremner Cup Series between the two schools with a 63-32 victory over the Kohawks.

Cornell appeared to have scored in the first minute of the game, but the basket was waved off by a shot clock violation.  The Cornell fans had already covered the floor in toilet paper, as the Rams were assessed the technical foul without having scored the basket.  Sophomore Lindsey Jipp (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) sank both free throws, but it was all Rams after that.  Cornell responded with a 19-4 run in the next 9:46, taking a 19-6 lead with 8:22 to play in the first half.  A pair of jumpers by junior Mackenzie Reed (Iowa City, Iowa/West) cut the Cornell lead to 21-10 with 6:30 to play, but the Rams ended the first half on an 11-2 run, as they held a 32-12 lead at the break.

The Rams stayed hot in the second half, as they scored the first 13 points in 4:49.  A layup and 3-pointer by sophomoreBrooke Wheelwright (Elizabeth, Ill./River Ridge) sparked a 14-5 Kohawk run at the 14:38 mark, but Cornell answered with a 13-4 run of their own over the final 9:36 of the game.

Wheelwright led the Kohawks with a career-high seven points, while Reed added six.  Junior Lindsey Buckles (Davenport, Iowa/West) added five points.  Senior Caitlin Kray (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier) led Coe with eight rebounds, while sophomore Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) added seven.  Buckles finished with five boards.

Hayes blocked a game-high five shots.  Reed and freshman Allie Wirth (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) had two steals a piece, tying a career-high for Wirth.   Senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) had two points, as Coe's all-time leading scorer went over 1,300 for her career. Camille Marie led the Rams with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Coe shot 4-of-32 (12.5%) in the first half, while shooting 16.4 percent (10-of-61) for the game.  The Kohawks were 1-of-24 from 3-point range.  Cornell held a 32-14 lead in points in the paint and a 16-3 advantage in second chance points.  Coe's 32 points were the fewest in seven seasons under head coach Randi Peterson.

The Kohawks return to action on Saturday, as they face Mount Mercy.  A link for live video and live stats can be found on CoeAthletics.com.
