NEW YORK – A career night by Kendra Rivers saw the junior post her first ever double-double but Mariners 23 offensive rebounds were too much to overcome as the United States Merchant Marine Academy defeated the City College of New York (1-5), 66-59, in the second game of a doubleheader at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Rivers tied her career mark with 15 points (Jan. 9, 2012 vs. NYU-Poly) and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds along with three assists. Sajidah Pressley scored 12 points on 3-for-6 shooting and added four assists and one steal in 31 minutes of action. Syreeta Williams pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds, five offensive, to tie her career best performance (Nov. 27, 2011 vs. St. Joseph's LI).

The Beavers overcame a slow start as CCNY came back from an early nine-point deficit and went on a 16-0 run to take a seven point lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half.

However, the Mariners were dominant on the offensive glass and posted 23 offensive boards that led to 24 second chance points. Guard Roshenda Josephs and forward Rebecca Resor posted double-doubles with 14 points and 12 rebounds and 14 points and 16 rebounds, respectively, while Tamara Kaileh and Marlee Chovich chipped in with 12 points apiece.

The Beavers return to CUNYAC action on Friday, Dec. 7 to take on Baruch College at ARC Arena at 5 PM.
