Junior guard Jessica Bandrowski (Center Moriches, NY/Center Moriches) scored a season-best 21 points as the Keuka College women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win thanks to a 23-0 second-half run and defeated Morrisville State, 65-44 Wednesday night inside the Weed Physical Arts Center.
Bandrowski added six steals and three assists while classmate Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) added 13 points and seven rebounds and senior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) added 14 points and five rebounds as the Storm (4-1, 1-0) won their North Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
Junior Taylor Szwec (Candor, NY/Candor) also chipped in with a game-high 10 rebounds and six assists as Keuka out-rebounded the Mustangs (0-7, 0-1) 43-34.
Keuka trailed 28-25 at halftime as the Mustangs shot 48 percent (12-for-25) while limiting the Green and Gold to just 32.3 percent (10-for-31).
The two rivals traded baskets, and Morrisville held a 34-30 lead before Keuka exploded for 23 unanswered points. Gravel knocked down a '3' and Mouzon made a free throw to knot the score at 34-all with 14:08 remaining.
Sophomore Erica Pendrak (Utica, NY/New York Mills) made a layup to put Keuka ahead for good, 36-34, but the Storm weren't done. Mouzon hit consecutive baskets and Bandrowski had a steal and a layup for a 42-34 lead.
Bandrowski scored eight points, Mouzon added seven and Gravel had six points during the spurt as Keuka took a 53-34 lead with 6:06 remaining and breezed to the win in its NEAC opener.
The Storm shot 33.3 percent (8-for-24) on three-pointers as Gravel and Bandrowski each made three '3s'.
