Burns & Andrade Each Post Double-Doubles in, 50-39, Win at Salve Regina

Newport, R.I.-Senior forward Courtney Burns (Rockland, MA) and freshman frontcourt mate Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) each posted double-doubles as Rhode Island College defeated Salve Regina, 50-39, at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Tuesday evening.

 

Burns posted a game-high 13 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go along with 11 boards for the Anchorwomen (5-2). Andrade contributed 12 points, a game-high 13 boards and three assists for her first collegiate double-double. Junior forward Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) was the third member of the team to reach double digits in boards with 10. She also posted six points, two blocks and two steals. Senior guard Ashley O'Dell (Lincoln, RI) registered seven points, four rebounds and four assists.

 

RIC dominated the glass, 55-39, and shot 41 percent (23-for-56) from the field. The Anchorwomen struggled mightily from the free throw line, making just 3-of-14. The Seahawks (1-4) shot 23 percent (14-for-61) from the field.

 

Salve freshman guard Kaitlyn Lendrum (El Dorado, CA) led the hosts with eight points.

 

 RIC found itself down, 21-18, with just over two minutes left in the first thanks to a pair of free throws by Lendrum. The Anchorwomen battled back to take a 22-21 lead into halftime on two free throws by freshman forward Tori Forrest (Mont Vernon, NH).

 

 The visitors used a 17-7 run over the first 12 minutes of the second half to increase their advantage to 11 points. The hosts would get no closer than seven points over the remaining seven minutes as the Anchorwomen grinded out the victory.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at home against Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Dec. 8 (1 p.m.).
