MADISON, NJ (December 3, 2012) – Junior guard Cydni Matsuoka scored 13 first half points on a perfect shooting exhibition and the Vassar College women's basketball team rolled to a 35-20 intermission lead en route to a convincing 64-47 win over Drew University on Monday night.

While Matsuoka was a perfect 3 of 3 from 3-point distance (4 of 4 overall) in the opening 20 minutes, six other Brewer players figured into the scoring in a proficient first half. Vassar steamrolled to a 30-11 lead with 3:57 until halftime and the host Rangers could never get closer than 13 points, which was 39-26 with 17:42 to play in the game.

The victory raises Vassar to 5-0 on the season. Drew drops to 2-5. The Brewers return home to the AFC on Saturday, December 8 with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Berkeley (NY) College. Drew hosts FDU-Florham on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Matsuoka scored Vassar's first five points within the first 19 seconds into the game. It seemed to deflate Drew as the Rangers started the game with five straight turnovers and went nearly four minutes before registering their first points. Drew was hobbled by 14 first half turnovers and 2 of 12 (17 percent) from 3-point distance.

Vassar held Drew to 10 points for the first 11 minutes of the second half, methodically pulling away from a 39-26 lead at the 17:42 mark. The Brewers built a 51-30 lead – its largest of the game up to that point – with 8:52 to play following an inside layup from the left side from junior forwardHannah Senftleber. A jumper from the right side from freshman guard Alex Moon earned Vassar a 55-32 lead with 6:31 to play.

Matsuoka led the Brewers with 19 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the field and pulled down a team high five rebounds. Sophomore guard Nyah Berg had nine points in an effective 24 minutes of action and sophomore Michelle Foreman came off the bench to tally seven points.

Courtney Stephens led the Rangers with 11 points and five rebounds. Breanna Wilson tallied  nine points.
