NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Knights rode a commanding 38 point first half advantage to a 78-57 win over SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Knights even their record at 3-3 on the year and improve to 2-0 in Skyline play. The Panthers drop to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Mount sophomore Amanda Smith (Dayton, Ohio) knocked down a three pointer to open up scoring just 17 seconds into the game and the Knights rode an 18-2 run to jump to a 16 point lead by the 12 minute mark. Old Westbury freshman Olivia Ilardi (Bayside, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper to break the Panthers' scoring drought that spanned five minutes. With under nine minutes to play, the Knights took a 20 point lead, as Smith stole the ball and then converted a layup to make it a 26-6 game.
Sophomore Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) added her second three pointer of the game to increase the Knights' lead to 32, 44-12, with 2:38 left before the break. The Knights were able to take advantage of Old Westbury turnovers, cashing in on 20 points off of turnovers in the first half alone.After holding a 50-12 lead at halftime, the Knights cruised to a 78-57 win over the Panthers.
Smith led the way for the Knights with 15 points, while senior Rachel Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) and Romao added 14 points each. Perrone also added a team-high seven rebounds. Mount senior Becky Metzger was the fourth Knight to reach double digits, with 12 points.
Freshman Raven Pentz (Wallkill, N.Y.) and junior DeAndra Scott (St. Alban's, N.Y.) tallied 10 points each for the Panthers.
The Knights return to the road on Tuesday, December 4th, as they travel to Hunter College for a non-conference contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
