HOLLAND, Mich. - It was a tough second half for the Trine University women's basketball team, scoring just 11 points as they fell 72-35 to ninth ranked Hope College. The loss drops the Thunder to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

After sophomore Kayla Dunn (Larwill, Ind./Columbia City) hit the opening points of the game, the Thunder held the early lead as the two sides traded buckets through the first 10 minutes of the half. With the Thunder leading by one at 16-15, the Flying Dutch would hit a pair of free throws and never look back. Hope would build to an 8-point halftime lead as the Thunder made just one basket, a three by senior Haley Killingbeck (Poneto, Ind./Southern Wells), in the final 6 minutes of the half.

Leading 30-22 at the break, Hope would score the first five points of the second half to take a double-digit lead. Senior Megan Loveberry (Quincy, Mich./Quincy) would hit a three to pull the Thunder within 10, but the Trine offense would be held scoreless over the next 5:55 before senior Sydney Spragg (Reading, Mich./Reading) would hit a jumper. The damage had been done though as Hope led by 22 at that point as they would continue to build their lead to as much as 39 late in the game.

Spragg led the Thunder with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting while swatting away two shots. Loveberry added in eight points, six of which came from downtown, while grabbing four rebounds. Sophomore Kelsey Henselmeier (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) led the Thunder with five rebounds while freshman Alivia Recker (Arlington, Ohio/Arlington) grabbed three steals.

Trine went to the free throw line just six times on the night, converting on two while Hope made 18-of-25 from the line. The Thunder hit just 20 percent (6-for-30) in the second half compared to 14-for-29 (48%) for Hope.

Trine will head out on the road for a non-conference battle with Carthage (WI) on December 5 for an 8:00 p.m. (est.) tip.
