Lynchburg Scraps with Tough Panther Team, Come up Short 76-63

FERRUM, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team faced possibly its toughest challenge of the year against Ferrum, ultimately falling to the Panthers, 76-63, Friday night in a non-conference matchup.

Ferrum shot the ball a little bit better, 47% to 32%, while outlasting the Hornets in an offensive explosion. Lynchburg was able to keep the game closer in the second half, being outscored by three after being down ten at the end of the first.

LC cut the Panther lead to eight on two separate occasions in the last twenty minutes. Sophomore Shannon Allan knocked down a basket early in the second on an assist from fellow sophomore Katie Reeves. Sophomore Lauren Penley knocked down a couple of free throws shortly after a layup by Ferrum's Tesla Akers to make it eight once more, but the Panthers would assume control.

Allan led all scorers with 18 points. Freshman Sammi Goldsmith had 13 points while leading the team with three assists.

Ferrum (4-0) were led by Jacole Hairston and her 17 points. Katy Kipps and Akers each added 14.

The Hornets (2-3) are on the road again on Sunday, December 2 as they take on William Peace. Opening tip is scheduled for 3 p.m.
