Rams Fall to Union in Woodcliff Invitational

Union (N.Y.) - 48, Farmingdale State - 45


Pittsford, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team fell, 48-45, to Union (N.Y.) in the Woodcliff Invitational hosted by St. John Fisher College. The Rams dropped to 0-3, while the Dutchwomen improved to 1-1 on the season.

Tied 40-40 with 3:42 remaining, a converted free-throw and layup by junior forward Kristin Schmidt (Suffern, N.Y.) put Union ahead by three. After each team traded a basket, Farmingdale State's senior forward Siohban Purvis (Amityville, N.Y.) converted a pair at the line to cut the deficit to 45-44 with 40 seconds left on the clock.

After being fouled, junior guard Amy Loya (Bethel, Conn.) connected on both free-throws to give the Dutchwomen a 48-45 lead with seven seconds remaining. Senior guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y.) missed a game tying 3-pointer at the buzzer as Union earned the 48-45 victory.

Purvis led the way with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds for the Rams.

Senior guard Shayla Madden (Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored a team-leading 15 points, while sophomore forward Kate Thompson (Clinton, N.Y.) had 11 points and 15 boards for the Dutchwomen.
