DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College opened a double-digit lead just seven minutes into the game and cruised to a 63-51 triumph over non-conference foe Rowan University in the Aggies' home debut.
Delaware Valley improved to 1-2 overall and will now prepare for its Freedom Conference opener at defending champion King's College on Wednesday, November 28. Rowan dropped its second straight contest as it fell to 2-2.
The first half belonged to the Aggies as they outscored the Profs, 36-17, over the 20 minutes. The key was their defense as the held the Profs to a 7-for-32 (21.9%) shooting effort from the field and forced 17 turnovers.
The game was tied at five when Delaware Valley went on an 18-4 run, including eight points apiece by freshman Eireann Anastasi and sophomore Brenna Coll, to take a commanding lead. The Aggies were still up 12, 25-13, with 4:28 remaining when they scored 11 of the half's final 15 points. Anastasi led the way again, this time with six points in the run.
Delaware Valley built its lead to as many as 24 in the second half and Rowan did not get any closer than 12 points in the stanza. The Profs did grab 32 offensive rebounds and held a 60-41 advantage on the boards in the contest, but they could not find their shooting touch all evening and finished at 27 percent (20-for-74).
Anastasi led all players with 18 points and she also added five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Coll finished with 14 points and six boards while senior forward Emily Soper had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Kilpatrick also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. The remaining starter, sophomore Agatha Drozd, finished with six points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Kate Matthew notched 17 points and 19 rebounds (11 offense) for Rowan. Bria Hill added 15 points and nine rebounds while Eyandra Molina finished with 11 points, eight boards and six assists.
