DePauw held Illinois Wesleyan without a field goal over the final seven minutes of the first half and were never threatened the rest of the way as the Tigers captured the Frontier Communications/Titan Tournament title with a 75-52 victory.

DePauw, ranked third in the latest coaches' poll and fourth by D3hoops.com, improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season. Illinois Wesleyan, ranked seventh in the coaches' poll and fifth by D3hoops.com, dropped to 2-2.

Coupled with yesterday's win over Washington-St. Louis, the Tigers accomplished the feat of wins over top-10 teams on consecutive days for the first time since they topped Hardin-Simmons and Wilmington in 2002 to advance to the national semifinals.

DePauw jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first four minutes, but the Titans responded with nine straight to lead, 11-7.

The hosts still led, 19-17, after Whitney Scurlock's layup with 7:18 left, but that would be their last field goal for a nine-minute stretch including the early portion of the second half.

Illinois Wesleyan closed the half by missing five field goal tries and committing five turnovers. DePauw capitalized by hitting all seven shots from the field and took a 39-20 lead into the break.

Ellie Pearson and Alex Gasaway scored back-to-back three-point plays in the second half to push the lead to 45-20. That lead reached as many as 34 points midway through the half.

"I'm very proud of how the team handled a tough weekend," DePauw head coach Kris Huffman said.

"Illinois Wesleyan plays a unique uptempo, trapping defense and we handled the pressure well."

Gasaway paced DePauw with 19 points with Pearson adding 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Kate Walker dished out seven assists and committed just one turnover.

Colleen McMahon was the Titans' lone double-figure scorer with 13 and shared the squad's rebounding lead with Lexi Baltes as each grabbed five. Baltes also handed out four assists.

The Tigers shot 47.4 percent for the game to Illinois Wesleyan's 34.6 percent and outrebounded the Titans, 36-33. With just 11 turnovers, DePauw held a 25-7 advantage in points off of turnovers.

DePauw opens North Coast Athletic Conference play at Denison on Saturday, Dec. 1, in a 2 p.m. contest.
