Women's Basketball Loses Close One to Farmingdale State

ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team made a late run against Farmingdale State before falling just short in the end as the Bloodhounds were defeated by the Rams 49-47 in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa tournament hosted by St. John Fisher College.
 
With the loss John Jay is now 1-2 overall this season as the Bloodhounds will now focus their attention on their next game which will be their home and conference opener against the City College of New York on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for Homecoming.
 
Against Farmingdale State, three players netted double figures including Danielle Eagan who had a team-high 16 points, and Victoria Story and Jamecia Forsythe with 10 points each. Forsythe just missed a double-double as she grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Rams, who lost to Union College in the opening round on Saturday, led most of the contest. After John Jay opened the game on a 9-4 run to start, Farmingdale State outscored the Bloodhounds 15-0 over an eight minute span to take a 19-9 lead with 3:54 remaining in the first half.
 
Farmingdale State held the lead the rest of the game. The Rams led by as much as 11 in the first half before going into halftime ahead 24-18.
 
John Jay, who closed out the first half on a 5-0 run, scored the first two points of the second half to pull to within four as the Bloodhounds trailed 24-20.
 
But the Rams lengthened their lead with a 10-0 spurt to go up 14 with 15:29 remaining.
 
Farmingdale State maintained a comfortable margin for most of the final stanza. With just over four minutes to go, the Rams were still up double figures before the Bloodhounds cut into the gap.
 
John Jay used an 8-1 run to pull to within three points of the lead as the Bloodhounds trailed 45-42 with 1:06 to go.
 
But Farmingdale State, with clutch free throw shooting, scored the next four points (all on free throws) to go back up by seven.
 
The Bloodhounds closed out the game scoring the final five points, including the last three on a three point field goal by Eagan with two seconds left before the Bloodhounds ran out of time.
 
Farmingdale State was led by Nicky Young with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
