(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Four Saints reached double-figure scoring tonight (Tuesday, November 20, 2012) as the 14th-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated in-state rival Centre College, 66-54, in a non-conference game at the Connor Convocation Center.

With the win, the Saints improve to 3-0 overall.  With the loss, the Colonels fall to 1-2 on the season.

Thomas More jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 15:05 to play in the first half when sophomore forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) made a lay-up.  Centre answered with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 7-7 when Paige Baechle made one-of-two free-throws with 13:41 to play in the opening half.  The Saints responded with a 9-5 run to extend the lead to 16-12 when Burgoyne made a three-pointer with 9:48 to play in the half.  The Colonels tied the game at 16-16 when Bridget Winstead made a lay-up at the 7:57 mark of the first half to cap a 4-0 run.  Thomas More answered with an 18-6 run capped by a lay-up by freshman sophomore guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) to build a 34-22 lead with 3:17 to play in the opening half.  Centre used a 7-2 run to cut the Saints' lead to 36-29 at intermission when Maggie Hartlage made two free-throws with 51-seconds to play in the game.

Centre opened the second half on an 11-8 run to cut the lead to 44-40 on a Mary Winstead jumper with 12:56 to play in the game.  Thomas More answered with a 22-10 run extend the lead to 66-50 with 3:00 to play in the game when junior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made two free-throws.  Centre closed out the game on a 4-0 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 66-54.

Reaching double-figure scoring was Burgoyne with a career-high 18 points, Wainscott with a career-high 13 points and Beasley and senior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) with 10 points each.  The Saints were led in rebounding by four players as Burgoyne, senior guard Jill Brunsman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), junior guard Nakharra Gaines (Fairdale, Ky./Fairdale) and freshman forward Alexa Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) all finished with four rebounds each.  Beasley led the team in assists with four, while Long led the team in steals with five.

The Saints return to action on Friday and Saturday (November 23-24) when they host the 11th Annual Julie Costello Memorial Classic presented by Barleycorn's.  The Saints will play top-ranked Calvin College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Capital University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
