Huskies jump out to halftime lead, hold off Blue Devils for 74-56 win

MENOMONIE (November 20, 2012) - UW-Stout played NCAA Division II opponent St. Cloud State University even for the first 16 minutes of the first half before the Huskies ended the half on 12-0 and went on to down the Blue Devils, 74-56, in Stout's home opener Tuesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

With the Blue Devils (1-2) staying right on the Huskies tail, generally within a basket or two, St. Cloud State (3-0) shut down Stout to close out the half after Stout the Blue Devils pulled to within 21-19. Five points by Jessica Benson, four points by Sam Price and a three-point bucket by Amanda Wagner spurred the Huskies 12-0 run to end the half. 

The Blue Devils would get no closer the rest of the way.

Benson led the Huskies with 15 points, while Price finished with 12 points and Emma Konopasek came off the bench for 10 points.

The Blue Devils were led by senior Whitney Rawdon (Eau Claire) with 12 points. Katelynne Folkers (So, Fall Creek) had eight points, nine rebounds and five assists. Stout shot 34 percent from the floor, while the Huskies were limited to 36 percent shooting.

Stout will host the Quality Inn and Suites Turkey Shootout, Nov. 24 and 25. Stout will play St. Scholastica Saturday at 5 p.m. and Martin Luther College, Sunday, at 3 p.m.
