Medaille Women Earn First Win of Season; Cruise Past Mary Baldwin

BALTIMORE, MD - The Medaille women's basketball team got into the win column on Day #2 of the Mike Durgala Memorial Tournament hosted by Johns Hopkins University as they cruised past Mary Baldwin College (76-39) this afternoon.

The Lady Mavs never trailed in a game in which they led by as many as (46) points; and were dominant in every aspect.  Medaille won the battle of the paint, outscoring the Fighting Squirrels (44-8) in the lane.

The Lady Mavs turned (22) Mary Baldwin turnovers into (27) points on the other end of the floor while tallying (24) fast break points as well.

Leading the way for Medaille was All-Tournament selection Joelle Pollak who followed up her (21) performance from the night before with (20) more points.  This time she was on fire as she knocked down (8 of 10) shots from the floor, including a (4 for 5) effort from beyond the arc. She also matched a game high with seven assists.

Senior Brittney Rowland dropped in (16) points, also on (8 of 10) shooting as the Lady Mavs finished the game with a (48.5%) overall shooting percentage.  They also connected on half of their three point attempts, finishing (6 for 12) fromlong range.

All ten players that saw action for Medaille, made into the scoring ledger and the Lady Mavs were unselfish with the ball all game long as they had assists on (24 of 33) field goals made.  Pollak's (7) assists were also matched by rookie Kayla Golden, who was (2 for 3) from the field on the day as well.

The Lady Mavs also dominated the glass, outrebounding Mary Baldwin (48-29).  That effort was led by freshman Toria Williams who pulled down a game best (14) boards while sophomore Morgan Howe gathered in (8) caroms of her own.  Williams also registered a team high, two blocked shots.

The win puts the Lady Mavs at (1-2) overall as they head back home where they will host non-conference foe, St. John Fisher College, on Tuesday (11/20) at 6:00pm in the Sullivan Center.
