WESTMINSTER (MD) – Emory & Henry College scored the final nine points of the game as the Wasps rallied for an 84-81 triumph over Delaware Valley College in the consolation game of the McDaniel College Tip-Off Tournament.
The teams were tied at 58 with 15 minutes remaining when the Aggies (0-2) went on a 12-4 run, keyed by two treys from Kelsey Kilpatrick and five points from fellow rookie Eireann Anastasi. Emory & Henry (1-1) battled back to tie the game at 71 with 6:44 remaining, but Delaware Valley scored four straight from the foul line as Emily Soper and Anastasi hit two apiece. The teams then exchanged baskets before the Wasps hit a layup with 2:53 on the clock to trail by two, 77-75. Anastasi connected on a layup19 seconds later and then sank a pair of free throws with 2:02 to go to make it an 81-75 contest.
That was the last time Delaware Valley would put points on the scoreboard. The Wasps' Kristie Langley hit two free throws which was then followed by a Michelle Williams 3-pointer with a minute remaining to make it a one-point game. Langley was then fouled with 36 seconds left to give Emory & Henry the lead. The Aggies missed inside and Karina Farr was fouled with 20 seconds to go. She hit both up the lead to three and Delaware Valley missed a trey in the closing seconds as the Wasps came away with the win.
Langley was perfect 10-for-10 from the foul line, en route to a career-high 29 points. Michelle Williams scored 19 points while Farr added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Anastasi earned a spot on the all-tournament team as she notched 22 points on Saturday and 39 points over the two contests. Soper had 18 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks while Brenna Coll finished with 13 points and eight boards. Kilpatrick and Shannon Barlow added 11 points apiece.
