Freshman Lexi Fisher (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) had a solid collegiate debut, scoring 18 points, on 8-of-13 shooting, as junior Susan Kies (Fonda, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) added 12, but the Beavers came up short against #9 Washington University (Mo.) on Friday night, 95-73, in the second semifinal game of the Washington University McWilliams Classic.

Fisher came off the bench and made both three-point attempts she took and played 24 minutes overall.  Kies, who was 2-of-5 from downtown and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, also added five rebounds and two assists.  Junior Malarie Gilley (Grand Junction, Iowa/East Greene) added six points and a team-high eight rebounds, to go along with two blocked shots.  Senior Brooke Wehle (Denison, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig), who played a game-high 31 minutes, also dished out a game-high eight assists.

BVU came out and shot43 percent from the floor, including 5-of-13 from beyond the arc, in the first half were tied 10-10 with the Bears five minutes in.  Wash U then rattled off six straight points before a triple from Kies got the Beavers back within three.

Wash U, which shot a stellar 56 percent in the half and 51 percent for the game, would take over from there, though, using a 19-2 run over the next five minutes to build a 20-point lead and led 56-33 at the half.

The game-went back-and-forth for much of the second half, as the Bears maintained the 20-point margin and led by as many as 29.

Buena Vista (0-1) will now face Lake Forest College in the tournament's consolation game on Saturday evening at 5:00pm.  The Foresters fell 67-48 to Ohio Northern in the first semifinal game on Friday.
