Emily Thesing scored 19 points and sophomore center Alex Lippert was three blocks shy of a triple-double as Concordia downed Guilford (N.C.) 64-50 in the season opener at the Peace College Tournament on Saturday.
Concordia shot 35.2% from the field but their defense, led by Lippert in the paint, limited Guilford to just 29.7% from the floor from the game.
Lippert wound up with 16 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks. Thesing was 5-for-9 from behind the arc and finished with the game-high 19 points. She also collected eight rebounds on the night. Tricia Sorensen was the third member of the Cobbers in double figures. She had 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Concordia's size in the middle helped the Cobbers post a big 48-32 advantage in rebounding. CC also enjoyed a 22-4 edge in second-chance points as they came away with 17 offensive rebounds on the night.
The Cobbers will now play Salem in the championship game of the Peace College Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.
