WASHINGTON, D.C. – First-year head coach Brendan Stern earned his first collegiate victory Sunday as Gallaudet University defeated D'Youville College, 66-59, in the GU Holiday Tournament women's basketball consolation game at the Field House.
Sophomore guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) led all scorers with 21 points, added six assists to lead the Bison (1-3). Latham made several clutch free throws down the stretch to preserve GU's lead over the Spartans (1-5). Freshman forward Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had 14 points and led the Bison with seven rebounds. Freshman guard Bianca Richards-Hamilton (Mesa, Ariz.) was very active on defense as she led the Bison with four steals, tallied eight points and five rebounds.
The game was tightly contested most of the way. The two teams went back and forth during the first half and headed into the locker room with the score knotted at 31.
