Time runs out on Gallaudet comeback in Rinso Marquette Tournament consolation game

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) made one of her four 3-pointers with four seconds left to pull Gallaudet University within a point, 53-52, against Pitt-Bradford on Saturday in the women's basketball consolation game of the Rinso Marquette Tournament at Lebanon Valley College. The Bison (0-2) sent Pitt-Bradford (2-1) to the foul line where they missed the free throw, Latham got the rebound but the final seconds ran off as GU narrowly lost.

Gallaudet went on a 17-0 run during a four-minute stretch of the first half to take its biggest lead of the game 23-16 with 6:37 left before halftime. Sophomore guard Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.) helped to start the run with three 3-pointers in a 54 second stretch as the Bison led 17-16 after trailing 16-6. Pitt-Bradford outscored Gallaudet 12-2 in the first five minutes of the game as well. The Bison went into the locker room up 27-26.

In the second half, neither team led by more than six points as the game stayed close throughout. Weiss made her fourth 3-pointer with 3:45 left in regulation as the game was tied, for the fourth time, at 49.

Weiss finished with new career highs in points (16) and rebounds (12) to go with three steals. She was named to the all-tournament team. Latham matched Weiss with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists. Latham did the majority of her damage in the second half where she scored 14. Freshman Claire Tucker (Middletown, Md.) came off the bench to net 11 points, grab seven rebounds and made three steals.
