WESTON, Mass. - Elms College senior forward Erika Murphy (Torrington, Conn.) swished a go-ahead jumper with six seconds to play to lift the second-seeded Blazers to a dramatic 66-64 victory over No. 4 Daniel Webster College and secure the program's first-ever New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Saturday afternoon at Regis College in Weston, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to a program-best 20-8 overall and secures its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The selection show is set for Monday at 2:30 p.m. Daniel Webster falls to 19-9 on the season.

After a layup by freshman forward Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) at the 3:39 mark of the second half broke a 61-61 tie, Daniel Webster's Alyssa Marson (Augusa, Maine) drained a trey to put the Eagles ahead by one at 64-63 with 3:15 to play in regulation.

Neither team could get a shot to fall until Murphy canned a jumper with 6.4 ticks on the clock to give Elms a slim 65-64 lead. On the ensuing inbounds play, Murphy stole the ball and was immediately fouled with one second on the clock. She hit the front-end of two free throws and time expired before the Eagles could attempt a final shot as Elms completed a dramatic 66-64 victory.

Parks finished with a team-high 15 points, while senior guard Carolyn Talmadge (Wilbraham, Mass.) canned four treys en route to 14 points and dished out four assists. Murphy added 11 points and a game-best 15 rebounds to help seal the victory.

In a game that was tightly contested from start to finish, Elms drew first blood on a trey by sophomore guard Ellen Donohue (Southington, Conn.) and built its lead to as many as six (12-6) at the 15:25 mark and the Blazers did not allow Daniel Webster to grab the lead as Elms took a slim 31-30 advantage into halftime.

Trailing 33-32 in the early moments of the second half, the Eagles' Kristen Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.) canned a pair of free throws to give Daniel Webster its first lead of the game with 18:56 to play. With the score set at 45-44 in favor of the Eagles with 10:54 to play, Talmadge delivered a strike from beyond the arc and Parks added a pair of layups to highlight a 7-2 run and give Elms a 53-47 edge.

Daniel Webster answered when Sarah Paternostro (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied the game at 54-54 on a three-pointer at the 6:49 mark and Marson connected for a game-tying triple to knot the game at 59-59 with 4:39 to play.

Elms' junior guard Jennifer Normandie (Westford, Mass.) and the Eagles' Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) exchanged layups to set the score at 61-61 with 3:54 on the clock to set the stage for the contest's exciting conclusion.

Paternostro led all scorers with 16 points and added seven rebounds, while Murphy and Gervais added 14 and 13 points each in the losing effort for Daniel Webster.

Marson finished with eight points off the bench and Kacie Lang (Raymond, N.H.) chipped in a team-high eight rebounds and scored seven points.

Both teams shot well from the field as the Eagles hit on 41.2-percent of its shots, while the Blazers made 38.6-percent of theirs.
