For the third time this season, junior center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) earned New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week honors as well as was selected to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll. Averaging 17.5 points and 19.5 rebounds per game, she guided the Nighthawks to a 2-0 week.
Early last week, O'Connell registered the game-winner in Newbury's first victory in program history over Daniel Webster. With 26 second remaining against the Eagles, the South Shore native ripped down her 23rd rebound of the game and laid it back up for the put-back for her game-high 25th point en route to the one-point, 60-59, victory. Against Daniel Webster, O'Connell dominated the post offensively and defensively shooting 12-of-16 from the field while recording two blocks and a steal.
She closed out a remarkable week registering her 19th double-double of the season in a convincing, 76-36, victory against Southern Vermont College on Saturday February 18th. In addition to netting 10 points and pulling down 16 rebounds against the Mountaineers, she also tallied three blocks to average 2.5 blocks per game on the week.
