Baruch Runs Past CCNY in CUNYAC Quarterfinal, Play Rival Hunter Next

The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Beavers of CCNY, 73-42, in a CUNYAC / Con Edison Championship quarterfinal home game played on Sunday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

CCNY built up an early 15-10 lead, but following a timeout the Bearcats ran away by ending the first half with a 19-2 run for a 31-21 halftime advantage. They started the second half with the same intensity with a 27-7 run to lead by as much as 30 points (58-28) with 11:22 remaining.

The visiting Beavers never recovered and saw their season come to an end with a 5-21 record and quarterfinal round exit.

The Bearcats will advance to their tenth consecutive appearance in the CUNYAC / Con Edison Championship semifinal round, which is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, at 8:00 pm, at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium. They will next play their rival Hunter College Hawks (13-13).

Jessica Duleba, who was named on Thursday as the CUNYAC Player of the Year, led the Bearcats to their sixth consecutive win and ninth in their last 10 contests by scoring 15 points with six rebounds, six assists, and one steal.

"We had a slow start in the beginning of the game," said Duleba. "But we got it together and did what we had to do to win."

Vikki DeTata (4 assists, 2 steals) and Folashade Akinde (five rebounds) finished with 10 points each.  Shamika Boyce narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.  Alyscia Jordan finished with seven points (3-4 fg), six rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot. Kiara Johnson
notched a career-high six steals.

Donika Rexhepi led the Beavers with 15 points, five rebounds and three steals. Syreeta Williams and Sajidah Pressley finished with eight points each.
