Lady Choctaws Down ETBU in Home Finale, 68-58

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College women's basketball team closed out their home schedule with a 68-58 victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday afternoon at A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Lady Choctaws (16-8, 13-6 ASC) held the Lady Tigers (6-19, 4-16 ASC) to just 31% shooting from the floor in the win.  MC will enter the ASC Tournament next weekend as the #3 seed from the East Division with the win by Texas-Dallas over LeTourneau today.

MC and ETBU were close through the first 10 minutes of the first half, but the Lady Choctaws would take their biggest lead of the game at 31-17 with 1:34 remaining on a layup by junior Ebony Williams.

The Lady Tigers stayed in the game and cut the lead to just 56-55 with 1:43 to go on a layup by Amanda Rucker.  MC would go 8-10 from the free throw line down the stretch to clinch the victory.

Junior Valeri Stewart led the way for MC with 15 points, knocking down all eight of her free throws.  Junior Ebony Williams tallied 14 points and junior Caitlin Brown poured in 10.

The Lady Choctaws shot 41% from the floor and tallied 16 assists on 24 buckets.

Brandace Latin of ETBU led all scorers with 21 points, making 8-11 free throws.  Enid Sanchez made 3-10 three-pointers on her way to 15 points, while Erika Brown tallied a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Choctaws will close out the regular season on Monday night when they travel to Louisiana College for a make-up game at 5:30 p.m. in Pineville, LA.
