Buffalo State Blows Past Fredonia, Moves Atop SUNYAC Standings

FREDONIA, NY—Buffalo State (21-2/14-2) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 67-51 victory at Fredonia (10-12/6-10) in a SUNYAC game tonight at Steele Hall.  Across the State in Potsdam, the Bears upset visiting Oneonta, vaulting the Bengals to sole possession of first place in the conference. 

Buffalo State controls its own destiny to claim the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC with road games at Oswego and Cortland remaining this Friday and Saturday respectively.

Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) continued her dominant play, leading Buffalo State with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) added 14 points, seven assists and four steals.  Hillary Kollar (Johnstown/Johnstown) and Olivia Luciani (Syracuse/E. Syracuse Minoa) netted nine points each off the bench.

Buffalo State jumped out to an early 21-8 lead and held a 34-18 advantage after the opening 20 minutes.  The Bengals coasted in the second half as the Blue Devils were unable to mount a rally. 

The Bengals dominated the glass, outrebounding Fredonia 44-32, including 19-9 on the offensive boards.  Buffalo State also outscored Fredonia 24-3 from 3-point range.

Buffalo State will look for its 10th-consecutive win when it visits Oswego on Friday at 6 p.m.
