Cal Lutheran Cruises Past Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. - A jump start mid-way through the opening period of play continued throughout the contest as Cal Lutheran cruised to a 77-34 conference victory over Caltech on the road this evening.

Starla Wright started for the Regals tonight and her first half total of 15 equaled that of the combined Beavers effort in the opening 20 minutes of action. She also came away with six of the 24 CLU first half rebounds. Cal Lutheran more than doubled up Caltech in both points, 42-15, and rebounds, 24-11, in the first half.

Wright added a pair of both points and rebounds to her total in the second stanza to finish with a game-high 17 points as well as a team leading eight boards.

Thirteen different Regals stepped onto the hardwood tonight with 12 of them scoring. Keely Anderson came off the bench to pour in 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-3 from long range. Jessica Pruitt, Chelsey Hastigan and Jazmyne Porter each finished with eight points in the victory.

CLU came down with 42 rebounds, 16 of which were on the offensive end of the court. The Regals converted those second chances into 22 points. The Cal Lutheran defense forced 28 Caltech turnovers and used those for 37 points. Anderson came away with four steals to lead all players in the game. Stone finished with three.

Overall, CLU shot at a 48.4 clip and connected on 7-for-18 three-pointers. Natalie Stone and Alex Nelson each handed out four assists for the Regals. At the line, they were a combined 8-for-11 with both Wright and Cameron Jones going 3-for-4.

On the Beavers' senior night, Theresa Juarez led Caltech with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double effort.

Cal Lutheran (16-7, 9-3 SCIAC) will be back on the road Thursday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Eagle Rock to tip-off against the SCIAC leading Tigers at Occidental (20-3, 11-1) at 7:30 p.m. Earlier this season CLU handed Oxy its only SCIAC loss of the season.
