Purchase, N.Y. – Sophomore Desiree Rosa (Dumont, N.J.) poured in a career-high 23 points on Saturday as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Basketball team snapped a five game losing streak with a 73-57 victory at Purchase. Rosa was one of four Dolphins to score at least 10 points in the tilt.
After falling behind 14-4 in the early going on Saturday, the Dolphins got back into the game with an 11-2 run to slice the disadvantage to a single point after a Rosa triple at the 11:19 mark.
Following the Rosa trey, Purchase quickly pushed the lead back to 10 points, at 28-18, before the Mount closed the half on a 17-5 run to sneak in front 35-33 heading into halftime. Rosa canned three triples over that stretch to get the Mount in front for good on the day.
Rosa finished the half 5-for-7 from behind the arc as the Dolphins shot 41.2-percent from the floor overall and an even 50-percent from long range. The sophomore guard was just two points shy of her pervious career-high after scoring 17 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Purchase would be able to tie the score in the opening minutes of the second half, but would not be able to pull in front again on the afternoon. The Mount's largest lead of the half would be seven points, until it blew the game open with a 14-4 run to open a 67-49 lead with 3:22 to play after a Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) conversion.
Mount Saint Vincent shot a touch over 42-percent from the floor in the second half and finished the day converting 41.7-percent of its field goal chances. Mount Saint Vincent made just one three in the second half and finished the game 6-for-12 from behind the arc.
Rosa had a big day for the Dolphins and set career-highs in points and three-point field goals made after draining all six of the Mount's triples. She also picked up four rebounds, handed out a pair of assists and swiped three steals. She finished the day 8-for-12 from the floor overall and 6-for-8 from distance.
Classmate Amy Delva (Nanuet, N.Y.) also recorded a career-high with 14 points on 6-for-16 shooting. Sage Owens (Narrowsburg, N.Y.) matched her career-mark with 10 points for the Mount and also grabbed five rebounds.
Senior Kara McNish (Hawthorne, N.J.) was the fourth Mount Saint Vincent player in double-figures as she recorded her 10th double-double of the season. She scored 10 points and hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds. Andrea Sinaly (Middle Village, N.Y.) finished the afternoon with a career best 11 boards.
Jess Lindsay paced Purchase with a game-high 25 points, while Alyssa Guido netted 19 for the Panthers. Alyse LaPadula handed out a game-high 10 assists for the Panthers who shot 35.4-percent from the floor overall.
Saturday's win moves Mount Saint Vincent to 6-16 overall on the season and to 2-10 in league play. The Dolphins will look to pick up consecutive wins for the first time this season on Wednesday when they host Sage. Tip-off at the Sharp Center is slated for 7:00 p.m.
