SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Cardinals bounced back from a tough defeat on Friday by downing Susquehanna 74-52 on Saturday afternoon.  CUA raced out to a 36-22 lead at halftime, and then shot 55% in the second half to earn its 19th win of the season.  Jill Woerner netted a game-high 18 points on the day, including the 1,000th of her career.

Woerner scored her historic point following a steal toward the end of the first half that she took coast-to-coast for a layup.  That basket made Woerner the 18th woman in CUA history to surpass 1,000 career points.

CUA fell behind 5-0 after only a minute, but Woerner got CUA on the board with an old-fashioned three-point play at the 17:39 mark.

Emily Grabiak's 3-pointer with 10:35 to play in the half gave the Cardinals a 17-10 lead, and Woerner's jumper 20 seconds later again made it a seven-point spread.

Another Woerner jumper, followed by Claire McEvily's basket at the 7:15 mark extended CUA's lead to 10, and Woerner's milestone hoop pushed the margin to 11 with 5:31 on the clock.

The lead reached 15 on Katarina Owunna's jumper at the 2:32 mark and Karlyn Dixon's basket right before the buzzer sent the Cardinals into halftime with a comfortable 14-point lead.

Jenny McGann added to CUA's lead immediately with a layup off a Grabiak assist, but Susquehanna answered with six straight to trim the lead to 10.

An 11-4 run by the Cardinals opened their lead up to 17 with 16:17 to play, but the Crusaders continued to hang around, getting to within 12 on a Jonaida Williams jumper at the 13:20 mark.

CUA responded again, this time with a 6-0 spurt, to make the lead 18 with 11:07 remaining.

After Susquehanna closed to within 10 with under 10 minutes to play, CUA scored seven straight as the Cardinals took a 64-47 lead.

Kelli Josephsen's jumper at the 3:33 mark made it a 21-point lead and Brigid Gannon's hoop 1:33 later put the margin at 24.

Woerner added 8 rebounds and a steal to go along with her 18 rebounds, while Josephsen (13), Owunna (12) and McGann (10) joined her in double figures in scoring.  Dixon and Josephsen led the way with four assists apiece, with CUA totaling 22 assists on 27 field goals.

Susquehanna received 14 points from Korey McCaffrey, with Ariana Stowe leading the way on the backboards with five caroms.

The Crusaders turned the ball over 22 times and shot just 35% for the game, including 30% in the opening half.

The Cardinals are now off for a week before closing out their regular season on Saturday, February 18 with a trip to face Goucher.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

CUA knows that it will be playing in the Landmark Conference Tournament on Wednesday, February 22, but the Cardinals do not yet know the opponent or location of the game.
