Liz Moynihan '14 scored 10 points to lead Tufts University to a 52-37 win over Hamilton College in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Feb. 10.
Tufts (19-5 overall, 8-2 NESCAC) clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2012 NESCAC championship. Tiffany Kornegay '12 scored six points, grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, and handed out a game-high five assists for the Jumbos. Hayley Kanner '15 and Bre Dufault '13 added seven points apiece. Kanner blocked three shots.
Kim Goidell '13 led the Continentals with 13 points and eight rebounds. Eliza Howe '13 chipped in 11 points, and Dani Feigin '14 handed out four assists.
Hamilton (8-14, 1-8) took a 2-0 lead on a layup by Rachel Fredey '13 with 18:58 left in the first half. Tufts responded with an 11-2 run to take the lead for good. Kate Barnosky '12 hit a jumper to spark the run, and Collier Clegg '13 capped it with a 3-pointer with 12:37 to play in the half.
Kelsey Morehead '15 drained a 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining in the half and the Jumbos held a 29-16 advantage at the break. Tufts shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Jumbos scored five of the first six points coming out of the locker room and Hamilton didn't get any closer than 14 points the rest of the night. Tufts led by as many as 23 with 5:24 to play. The Continentals shot 25 percent from the field in the second half.
Tufts held a 43-31 rebound advantage and tallied six blocks. Hamilton turned the ball over just six times, and the Jumbos committed eight turnovers. Hamilton ranks 40th in scoring defense in Division III at 52 points per game, and the Continentals held Tufts to that same amount.
The Continentals have dropped four straight games. It was the first time the two teams have played since the 1999-2000 season, and the Jumbos lead the all-time series 5-1.
Hamilton hosts Bates College for a NESCAC game on Sunday, Feb. 12, at noon.
