Brooklyn Knocks Off CSI 70-36; Finish CUNYAC Season Undefeated For First Time In School History

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team capped off a program-first as they finish CUNY Athletic Conference play a perfect 11-0, defeating the visiting College of Staten Island by a 70-36 final on Friday evening at the West Quad Center.

Brooklyn will enter the upcoming CUNYAC/Con Edison Basketball Championships as the #1 seed and will host the #8 seed, which will be either York or CCNY, next Sunday, February 19 at the West Quad Center.  The time for that contest has yet to be determined.  Check back with www.brooklyncollegeathletics.com for more information.

The Bulldogs dominated the contest from start to finish as Justine O'Callahan opened play with basket, sparking what would be a 15-3 run to open the game. 

BC would open the lead to 16, 21-5, as Charnelle Saint Laurent would knock down a jumper to give her team their largest first half lead with 11:31 to play. 

The Dolphins would remain pesky and hang in the game as a three-point bucket by Olivia Tierno cut the CSI deficit to 10, 27-17, with exactly three minutes to play in the period. 

A basket and free throw from Tiffany Thompson, followed by a Saint Laurent field goal, opened the lead to 14, before a Lauren Plagainos three as time expired lifted the margin to 17, 35-18, at the half. 

In the second half it was all Brooklyn as the home team eventually increase their lead to the final margin of 34. 

O'Callahan led four BC players in double figures, with 14 points and seven boards.  Nicole Franomano, Zoe Randolph and Saint Laurent each had 10, while Plagainos added nine and Thompson chipped in with seven and a team-high eight boards. 

Francomano's added 10 assists in the game as well to give her the double-double.  Saint Laurent added seven assists and four steals for the Bulldogs.

Staten Island was led by Tierno's 11 points, and got a game-high nine boards from Katelyn Hepworth.

Brooklyn will finish their regular season at home on Monday Evening as they host Briarcliffe as the team's four seniors, Justine O'Callahan, Kathleen HaggertyLauren Plagainos and Melissa St. Louis, are honored as a part of the team's  "Senior Night".  The game is scheduled for 6 pm.
