For the second time this season and third time in her career, junior center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) has been selected to the D3Hoops Team of the Week. The South Shore native earned the honors for a second time this season after having a monstrous week averaging 15.5 points per game and 19.0 rebounds per game to help guide Newbury to a 2-0 week.
This week O'Connell was one of two New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) student-athletes to earn one of the elusive five spots on the national weekly team. Lesley University senior guard John Sanchez was selected on the men's side.
At 11-9 and 9-4 in conference action, the Newbury College women's basketball is having one of their best seasons in Coach Katie Greene's five year tenure as Head Coach. Coming off a dramatic 77-63 upset over Elms College on Saturday February 4th for their first victory against the Blazers in program history, the Nighthawks look to push their win-streak to three games tonight when they tip-off against nearby rival Wheelock College at 7:30 p.m.
