Warhawk Women Net a Win on Senior Night

UW-Whitewater started the game with a 9-0 run.  Platteville's first points came on an Ashley Henry three-pointer at 16:52.  UW-W built a ten point margin, 22-12, at 8:56 on Chantel Burg (Hartford/Hartford Union)'s two free throws, and UW-W maintained its lead, eventually reaching twelve at 32-20 with 3:13 remaining, and went into halftime with a 34-24 lead. 

The Warhawks doubled up Platteville on the boards, grabbing 20 in the first half to 10 for UW-P.  The Warhawks also used their inside game to shoot 58% and hold the Pioneers to 33% from the floor.  UW-W junior center Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett/South Elgin) led both teams with nine points, hitting all four of her shots in the half.

Second half, same script.  Whitewater used a 13-4 start and eventually built a twenty point lead, 51-31 on a Cortney Kumerow (Bartlett/South Elgin) basket with 10:46 in the half.  Whitewater's lead stayed in double figures the entire half.  Whitewater has held opponents under 50 points five times this season.

Whitewater took six fewer shots than Platteville, but the Warhawk defense limited Platteville to 32% field goal shooting.  UW-W hit 50% of its shots.  Whitewater upped its ten rebound margin at the half to thirteen, 40-27, for the game.  Kumerow led both teams with 17 points, hitting all seven of her shots.  Alyssa Krajco was the only Pioneer in double figures, with ten.  Burg grabbed ten rebounds and had four steals, both game highs.

With the win, UW-Whitewater moves up to 17-5 overall, 9-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Platteville drops to 8-14 overall, 4-9 in the WIAC. The Warhawks, still in contention for a first round bye in the WIAC tournament, will travel to the top of Wisconsin to face UW-Superior Saturday for a 1:00 tipoff.  Wednesday UW-W will be at UW-Oshkosh, and the regular season wraps up at UW-River Falls February 18.
