ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont College Ravens women's basketball team held the visiting Trinity (DC) Tigers to shooting less than 20% from the field, winning tonight's game easily by a final score of 62-49.

With their second straight win the Ravens improve to 10-11 (4-9 CSAC). The 10 wins represent the most wins from the Rosemont women's basketball program since the 2005-2006 season. The loss broke the Tigers three-game win streak and they dropped to 12-5 on the season.

The Tigers started out on top, taking a 3-0 lead and holding the Ravens off the scoreboard for the first 3:40 until Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) connected from downtown to tie the game at 3-3. The Ravens stretched their lead to six points at 11-5 with 13:19 left in the half, but the Tigers would outscore Rosetmont 12-3 over the next 5:40 to forge a three-point 17-14 lead with 7:30 left. Another trey from Montecchio re-tied the game and the Ravens kept a slim lead for the rest of the stanza to lead 29-23 at the break.

The Ravens wasted no time putting a bigger cushion between themselves and the Tigers in the second half. Rosemont opened up the half on an 8-0 run to take a 37-23 lead with 14:07 remaining. The Ravens extended their lead to 24 points at 56-32 with 8:12 left when the Rosemont substitutes started to replace the starters. Trinity chipped away at the lead over the last eight minutes, but the difference was too big to catch the Ravens.

For Rosemont, both Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) and Montecchio earned double-doubles. Coyne was Rosemont's leading scorer with 19 points in addition to 11 rebounds. Montecchio scored 17 with 10 boards. April Buck reeled in 11 caroms for the Ravens, who out-rebounded Trinity 62-54.

For the Tigers, Charity Blackwell was a major factor in the paint with 13 rebounds. Thamar Polynice led the Tigers in scoring with 15. The team was helped by Christa Burgess who added another 12 points in the effort for Trinity.

The Ravens play their last home game of the season on Wednesday, 2/8 against the Centenary Cyclones in a CSAC contest on Ravens Rally Night. The game is scheduled for a 6pm tip-off in Alumnae Hall.
