More news about: Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and freshman Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) combined for 33 points and the Lycoming College women's basketball team used a 17-4 run in a 10-minute span between halves to post a 59-45 win over Arcadia University in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, Feb. 4, at Lamade Gym.

Lycoming (10-10 overall, 5-5 Commonwealth) used a 30-12 advantage in the paint to negate a 5-0 advantage in 3-pointers for Arcadia (3-17 overall, 0-10 Commonwealth), while the Warriors also used a transition game for 12 fastbreak points.

"I was happy with our defense, but we didn't take care of the ball on a few possessions and we didn't get good looks at the basket, but when we executed, we went on a few runs and I was happy with that," Lycoming head coach Christen Ditzler said. "We needed to get the ball inside to open up the outside and fortunately, they weren't doubling in the post and we got some good looks."

The win helps move Lycoming within 1.5 games of Widener and the fourth and final playoff slot in the conference championship, while the team set a new standard with five Commonwealth Conference wins, their most since joining the league in 2007-08.

Lycoming took a 10-5 lead over the first six minutes of the game following a fastbreak layup by freshman Sutton, but Arcadia responded with eight straight points in the next four minutes to take a three-point lead. However, the Warriors responded with nine straight points after a fastbreak layup by senior Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) made it 19-13 with 7:40 left in the half. The Knights cut the lead down to a paoing with five straight points, but again Lycoming responed with nine more straight points, as a jumper from Connaghan gave Lycoming a 28-18 lead with 1:03 left before the Knights cut the lead to 28-22 before halftime.

Lycoming continued to run in the second half, scoring the first eight points of the half to take a 36-22 lead after a fastbreak bucket from freshman Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area). Arcadia never got closer than 10 from there, while a jumper by junior Leeann Randall (Audobon, Pa./Methacton) gave Lycoming its largest lead of the game at 52-34 with 8:30 left.

Antonelli led the Warriors with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, while also posting a career-high five assists and a game-high four steals. Sutton added a career-high 16 points to go with five rebounds and two blocks. Connaghan also finished in double figures, posting 11 points. Junior Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) finished with six assists and freshman Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added three steals.

Christine Taylor led the Knights with 14 points and three 3-pointers. Jackie Law posted nine points and eight rebounds and Victoria Roukas added nine points and seven rebounds. Angie Adams posted five assists and Christie Kershaw added two steals.
