More news about: Trinity (Texas)

San Antonio - Trinity's women's basketball team pulled into a tie for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division lead with an 85-75 win over Southwestern University on Wednesday night.

Trinity (8-12, 6-5 SCAC) has now pulled even with both Colorado College and Southwestern atop the standings.

The Tigers trailed by seven points midway through the first half, then again late in the period with a 10-2 run that ended with just under four minutes left until halftime.  Trinity then used its own 10-2 run to take a 35-34 halftime lead - finished off with a buzzer-beating layup by Taylor Hollins.

In the second half, the Tigers picked up right where they left off, pushing the lead to seven points in the first 2:32 of the period.  Southwestern tied the game three times in that second half, but could never reclaim the lead.

Trinity held a 55-49 advantage in rebounds - including 23 offensive rebounds by the Tigers.  Hollins and Libby Kruse led the way with a pair of double-doubles.  Kruse had 15 points and a team-best 12 rebounds, while Hollins had 15 points and 11 boards off the bench.  She also recorded four blocks and a pair of steals.  The duo combined to hit 10-11 free throws as well.

Murphy Burns finished with a game-high 26 points, scoring 17 of those in the decisive second half.  Burns hit 10-25 from the field, and two assists, two blocks, and two steals.  Hannah Coley also scored in double figures, netting 15 points to go with seven rebounds.

Annie Bourne led Southwestern with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Chelsea Leeder had 20 points in the loss.  Jordan Owens added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Trinity and Southwestern will line up once more this week, as the teams will finish the regular season series with a Saturday night game in Georgetown, Texas.  The Tigers return to San Antonio for their final home games on Feb. 10 and 12, against Hendrix and Colorado College.
