(Feb. 1, 2012) - Every player on the active roster got into the game and senior Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) scored a team-high 14 points as Alvernia University (10-10, 3-6) improved to 40-0 all-time against Arcadia University (3-16, 0-9) with a 68-54 win Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at the Kuch Center.
Lycoming managed to stay a game clear of the Crusaders in fifth place with a six-point win over Albright and both teams trail Elizabethtown and Widener who stand at 6-3 and tied for third place in the conference. There are five more games on the schedule and the top four teams will make the postseason.
McIntyre hit a 3 to erase a 22-20 deficit--the last lead for the Knights--with 5:47 left in the first half and she and Chelsea Gieringer (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) ran off eight straight to put the Crusaders up six.
Alvernia hit the halftime break with a five point lead, 35-30, then scored 11 of the first 12 in the second half to break the game open. The lead reached its peak, 23 points when freshman Mya Lobb (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) hit a pair of free throws with 7:00 left.
Gieringer joined McIntyre in double-figures and tied her career-high with 12 while Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored nine points to go with a team-best eight boards.
Alvernia continues the conference schedule with a tough task hosting #16 Lebanon Valley on Saturday. the Dutchmen were the first to secure a playoff spot knocking off Messiah Wednesday night in Grantham.
