Greyhounds Hand Rangers Seventh-Straight Loss

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (January 14, 2012) – The Rangers who have struggled against Moravian (10-6, 3-2 Landmark) in the past, kept it close but ultimately fell on the road, 60-52 earlier this evening in Johnston Hall. Drew (4-10, 1-4 Landmark) lost their seventh consecutive game, dropping to 4-10 on the year and 1-4 in Landmark Conference play.

Senior Victoria Ault (Middletown, N.J./Mater Dei) had a team-high 11 points and was the only player for the Rangers in double figures. Classmate Danielle Barber (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Twp.) was a point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points and a career-high 12 rebounds in a losing effort.

Despite not connecting on a 3-point attempt, the Greyhounds still shot 38 percent from the floor and were 20-of-27 from the free throw line. Alexandra Blair led the way for the home squad with 18 points and nine rebounds. Guard Katie O'Rourke registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards to aid the Greyhound offense.

The Rangers never fell behind by more than six points in the first half of play with the score knotting up a total of five times. Two of the games three 3-pointers came in the first half of play by Ault and Katherine Luby (Saybrook, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall). After scoring the final four points of the half, the Greyhounds took a 27-21 lead into the locker room.

The tightly contested play over the first half would continue into the second frame with both squads fighting to take control of the game. The Rangers came with three points of the Greyhounds after a layup by Britta Olsen (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) making the score 43-40 with 6:38 remaining in the game.

The Greyhounds would not allow the visiting Rangers to get any closer, scoring the next four points and opening up a nine point advantage on a Hillary Murray free throw with 1:53 remaining. The Greyhounds attempted 23 of their 27 free throws in the final 20 minutes, making a total of 17 to help ice the win.

The Rangers will be on the road on Tuesday to take on Utica College. The non-conference match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Utica, N.Y.
