DePauw scored 10 straight points during a five-minute stretch of the second half to push a three-point lead to 13 and gradually pulled away for a 68-47 North Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting Kenyon.
The win lifted the Tigers, ranked fifth in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and sixth by D3hoops.com, to 18-1 overall and 11-0 in the NCAC. Kenyon dropped to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the conference. DePauw extended its season win streak to 17 and its home conference string to 68.
DePauw made its first five shots of the game and the Ladies missed their first four as the Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the opening 3:12. Kenyon scored the next 10 over a three-minute stretch to cut the DePauw lead to 12-10.
The Tigers took their biggest lead of the half at 31-20 after scoring eight straight, but Kenyon closed the half with a 7-0 run to trim the DePauw halftime lead to 31-27.
Kenyon was still within three at 38-35 after Kayla Ernst's jumper with 15:10 left. Ali Ross and Erin McGinnis hit layups to extend the lead to 42-35 before Alex Gasaaway and Lauren Abendroth knocked in threes on consecutive possessions to make it 48-35 with 10:12 remaining.
The Tigers later scored nine straight to extend the lead to 24 with just over three minutes remaining and led by as many as 25 in the closing minutes.
Kate Walker led DePauw with a season-high 16 points and hit 10-of-11 from the line. Ellie Pearson and Gasaway each scored nine and Pearson led the way with eight rebounds and three assists. Ross paced DePauw with four steals.
Maureen Hirt paced Kenyon with 12 points and Ernst added 10. Four different Ladies grabbed three rebounds apiece with Katie Adlam dishing out three assists.
DePauw shot 40 percent for the game to Kenyon's 38.6 percent and DePauw held a 40-19 advantage on the boards and committed just 12 turnovers.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, February 3, when they host Allegheny at 7 p.m. Kenyon hosts Denison on Friday night.
