CHICAGO -- In one of the most anticipated NCAA Division III women's basketball games of the week, the second-ranked University of Chicago defeated the fifth-ranked University of Rochester 75-59 in University Athletic Association play Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center. Both teams entered the contest with 17-0 overall records.
Game Summary
- Chicago (18-0 overall, 7-0 UAA) held the lead for all but three
minutes early in the first half en route to building a 35-27
halftime advantage.
- The Maroons took their first double-digit lead of the second
half, 46-36, on a layup by Taylor Simpson
with 16:43 left in the contest.
- Bryanne Halfhill's 3-pointer at the 9:58 mark put the Maroons on top 56-44. Chicago led by double figures the rest of the day.
Statistical Highlights
- With her 3-point shot with 9:58 left in the game, Halfhill
(pictured) became Chicago's all-time leader in that category (175).
Later in the second half, she became the 10th player in school
history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau. Halfhill finished
the game with 14 points.
- Morgan Herrick led all scorers with 16 points
for Chicago, while Meghan Herrick added 13
points.
- Morgan Herrick was perfect on seven attempts from the
field.
- Madeline Korber and Loren
Wagner paced the Yellowjackets (17-1, 6-1) with 10
points each.
- Chicago outshot Rochester 52% to 45% and notched a 36-23 advantage on the boards.
Notes
- With the victory, Chicago remained one of five undefeated teams
in the NCAA Division III.
- Chicago extended the nation's longest regular season winning
streak to 36 games.
- The Maroons won their 22nd in a row at home, their 21st
straight in UAA play, and their 47th consecutive game when leading
at halftime.
- Chicago posted its fourth straight win over Rochester and its third in a row over the Yellowjackets at the Ratner Center.
