DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College placed four players in double figures in scoring as the Aggies pulled away to a 77-66, Freedom Conference victory over visiting Wilkes University.
Delaware Valley upped its mark to 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference while the Lady Colonels fell to 5-14 and 0-8.
Wilkes held a 27-26 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first half. However, Delaware Valley ended the stanza by scoring nine of the final 11 points for a 35-29 advantage and the team never trailed again. Brittany Battinieri had five points during that run.
The Aggies continued their spurt in the opening moments of the second half as they scored 10 of the first 12 for a 45-31 advantage. Battinieri hit a trey to end that spurt and she added bombs on the team's next two trips down the court – with a trey by Wilkes' Megan Kazmerski in-between – for a 17-point lead with 14:02 remaining. Delaware Valley upped the lead to as many as 23 and a late Lady Colonel run made it an 11-point contest at the buzzer.
Battinieri hit four treys in the game and finished with 16 points, five steals and three assists. The senior also moved into fourth place on the MAC (Commonwealth Conference and Freedom Conference) all-time 3-pointer list with 236 makes. She broke a tie with Drew University's Melissa Kraft (2003-07) and is six behind King's College's Jenna Palumbo (2004-08) for the third spot.
Soper finished with a game-high 19 points and also added 10 rebounds and six blocks. Freshman Grace Mirak notched 17 points while senior Jackie Shunkwiler came off the bench to provide 12 points and eight rebounds.
Kazmerski led Wilkes with 12 points. Angela Palmerio and Elena Stambone added 11 points apiece in the loss.
