LeTourneau Snaps Lady Choctaws' Streak in Overtime, 61-54

LONGVIEW, TX - LeTourneau scored the final eight points in overtime to clinch a 61-54 win over Mississippi College on Thursday night in Solheim Arena.

For the YellowJackets (11-7, 7-7 ASC), it was their first-ever win over the Lady Choctaws (10-7, 8-5 ASC) in 27 tries.

LeTourneau led for most of the first half before MC took their first lead, 18-15, when junior Traci Rodgers made a three-pointer with 5:12 to go.  The Jackets would close out strong, leading 23-20 at halftime.

In the second half, LeTourneau led by as many as nine points before the Lady Choctaws started their comeback.  MC would tie the game at 42 when Elizabeth Brooks made a layup with 6:00 left on an assist by freshman Madelyn Cross.

Rodgers hit another big shot when she sent the game to overtime with a jumper that made the score 50-50 with :22 seconds remaining.

MC led 54-54 on a bucket by Cross, but could not score again as LeTourneau closed out the game on an 8-0 run.  The big shot came on a three-pointer by Jahmilah Tyson.

Cross led the Lady Choctaws with a season-high 12 points, going 4-6 from the floor.  Junior Caitlin Brown tallied 10 points and eight boards in the contest.

Both teams shot just 36% (22-61), but the YellowJackets made eight more free throws and took 14 more free shots in the contest.

LeTourneau was led by Sharday Cotton with 15 points and 13 rebounds.  DeShante Thomas tallied four points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Choctaws will stay on the road to face Texas-Tyler on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
