ALFRED, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored the first basket of the game in the opening minute and never trailed as the Golden Flyers snapped a four-game women's basketball losing streak with a 69-58 victory over Alfred.
Nazareth improved to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in Empire 8 Conference games. Alfred dropped to 7-12 and 0-8.
Four Nazareth players scored in double figures with seniors Katie Kollar and Erica Shaw each delivering 12 points. Senior Brittany Wilson added 11 points and senior Brittany TallChief had 10 pointa and a team-best seven rebounds.
Wilson scored the game's first basket to trigger a 7-0 run to open the game. After Alfred scored, Nazareth scored the next five points to take a double-digit advantage, 12-2, less than four minutes into the game. Wilson had seven of her points during the opening spurt and senior Danielle Chamberlain helped by hitting a three-pointer.
The lead continued to grow and peaked at 22 points, 38-16, following a three-pointer by Kollar with 3:15 to go in the first half. The Golden Flyers also got seven first-half points from freshman Maria Allocco as Nazareth led 44-27 at the break.
Nazareth was never seriously challenged in the second half, although the Saxons closed to within nine points on three occasions. Kollar and Shaw each hit a pair of free throws in the closing minute to seal the win.
Nazareth made 24 of 50 shots from the field (48 percent), including 5 of 13 three-pointers (38.5 percent). Alfred made just 18 of 66 shots from the floor (27.3 percent) and went 3 for 22 from three-point range. Freshman Harley Cleary led all scorers with 22 points. Grace Williamson added 19 points and 19 rebounds.
Nazareth visits Elmira Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
