ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--Despite a career-high 19 points from first-year Rachel Wiley, the Hood College women's basketball team (5-13, 1-9 CAC) came up short on the road at St. Mary's College (Md.) (8-11, 6-4 CAC), falling 71-52 Wednesday evening.

Wiley added 10 rebounds to her game-high scoring performance, marking her fifth double-double of the season. She connected on 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line on the night. Junior Dyanna Prater was the only other Blazer in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-13 from the floor.

The Seahawks registered the first six points of the contest and never trailed. After Hood fell behind by as many as seven in the early going, a pair of free throws by Wiley made it a one-point game, 21-20, with 7:23 to play in the opening half. But SMCM closed the stanza on a 15-5 run and took a 36-25 advantage into the locker room.

Hood was unable to close the gap to fewer than nine in the second half, as the Seahawks went on to sweep the season series and remain in fourth place in the CAC standings.

Briana Lee and Dorrie Mercer each contributed six points for Hood while Emily Maerz had five and Jessica Talley and Heather Boyce chipped in three each. Also of note, Maerz hit a pair of threes in the setback, marking the 14th straight game in which she has connected on at least one long-range basket.

St. Mary's was led offensively by Joanna Murray and Raven Owens who tallied 18 points each.

Hood hits the road for another CAC tilt Saturday at York College (Pa.). Tip is set for 4 p.m.
