LAPLUME, PA. – Gwynedd-Mercy won their ninth game in a row in holding off Keystone, 70-61, Wednesday night in a Colonial States Athletic Conference tilt.
Sophomore Natasha Matthews paced the Griffins with 18 points off the bench. She was one of four Griffins in double digits. Freshmen Jess Rotella and Kelsey Yori each added 12 respectively. Senior Bryn Cotteta chipped in 10.
Alyssa Cuomo went for 22 points, while hitting five of the team's six three-pointers for the Giants (7-11, 4-5 CSAC).
Gwynedd-Mercy (13-6, 9-1 CSAC) pulled away from an even first half, closing the period on a 17-6 run to lead 38-29 at the break.
The Giants pulled within three early in the second on a three-point play, but that's when the Griffins turned it on to take a double-digit lead. Sophomore Jordan Dominic connected from downtown to cap 15-5 spurt, giving GM a 13-point edge with 10:09 left. Gwynedd would lead by as much as 19 with just over five minutes in the contest.
Gwynedd was outrebounded for just the seventh time this season, as Keystone held a 42-32 advantage on the glass. Rotella and fellow rookie, Shea Wassel each had six apiece to lead GM. Chantel Blake pulled down 12 while Jazmyn Robinson added 10 for KC.
GM also committed a season-low seven turnovers (and forced the Giants into 13) while shooting 25-of-60 (41.7%) for the game.
The Griffins are back at it on Saturday, when they welcome Marywood in a matchup of division leaders. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
