Pacers Take Advantage of Fading Ravens

More news about: Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. - For most of the first 34 minutes of tonight's game against the Marywood Pacers, the Rosemont College women's basketball team seemed to figure out the Pacers. But the Pacers melted down Rosemont's last lead, 52-51 with 6:32 left by outscoring the home side 16-5 over the remainder of the game. Rosemont's cold shooting down the stretch (1-7 from the field, 3-6 from the line)opened the door for the Pacers to defeat the Ravens by a final score of 64-57.

Marywood moved to 13-5 (8-1 CSAC) with the win. The Ravens dropped to 7-10 overall (3-8 CSAC).

Rosemont trailed by as many as seven points, 24-17, with 8:20 left in the first half. Back to back treys from Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) and Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) quickly pulled the Ravens back to within a point. Rosemont outscored the Pacers 10-1 over the last 8:20 of the half to take a 27-25 lead at halftime.

The Ravens had difficulty opening up a large separation from Marywood in the second half, but the Ravens did go up by six points, 44-38 with 11:09 after a jumper by Coyne. Multiple Rosemont turnovers and fouls enabled the Pacers to get back to within 44-43, but layups by Coyne and Vanessa Johnson (Sr./GW Carver/Philadelphia) once again opened up a five-point lead for Rosemont with 8:43 left. The Ravens ceded their first deficit, 53-52 with 6:05 left and never led after that point.

Consistently during tonight's game the Pacers made the Ravens pay at the foul line. Marywood made 20 of 32 free throws while the Ravens had only 16 chances from the charity stripe, converting nine.

The Raven's Coyne notched her sixth double-double for the campaign, leading the Ravens in scoring (20) and rebounding (10). Montecchio added 12 and Alex Gravinese (Fr./Audubon, NJ) scored 11.

Marywood's attack was balanced, featuring four players in double-figures: Allison Bruet (13), Mariah Schaeffer (13), Carly Leitzel (11), Morgann Haduck (11). Maggie Presnal led the Pacers in rebounds with 10.

The Ravens next head to Baltimore to face the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday at 1:00pm in a CSAC game.
